Week 6: Getting Impatient

My face does not want to get better! :( The acne on my cheeks won't go away, they're painful, and itchy. My face is still dry, and burns at times. I can tell the treatment is taking many layers off of my skin, because it feels very soft, and looks shiny (in a good way).

Still I have seen the most improvement on/around my nose.
- My blackheads are clearly smaller
- My nose doesn't feel rough like it used to
- I have not gotten any acne on my nose anytime recently

I really wish I could wear foundation, but it doesn't go on smoothly, it burns, and I'm afraid it will break me out more.
I really want to try Revon Colorstay Whipped, Revlon Naked, or Loreal Lumi!

I still feel really self-conscience up close with people, and I feel like people think I don't wash my face!

I still have plenty of cream left over.

Oh! and I really like the Cerave face wash and moisturizer!!
I'll update again soon :)

Week 4: Still dry!

What have I experienced this week?
  • Still very dry skin, mostly around my mouth still (see photo below)
  • A couple of new pimples
  • Milia on my chin still remains
  • The scaly feeling around my nose is gone
  • I feel like my complexion is a little bit more glowy!
  • The blackheads on my nose have shrinked, and my nose feels soft!
Sorry this is such a disgusting view of my face! I just wanted you to be able to see how dry the skin around my mouth is. I'm not sure how long this is supposed to last, it's still pretty painful, and makes me pretty self-conscious.

Everything basically looks the same as before, I wish my scars would leave my cheeks! I'm very glad the redness around my nose has decreased though :)

I try not to pick at/touch my face. It is a bad habit I need to break.
I have not worn makeup in over a week...my face still doesn't allow foundation or powder, and I haven't even bothered with eyeshadow.
My boyfriend did actually think I was wearing foundation which made me happy! The treatment does add some color to me (more of a reddish color I feel), but my complexion is definitely brighter!

I'm sure the winter weather doesn't help the dryness, but I make sure to apply plenty of SPF to my face during the day.

I will update again soon!

Week Two: So Far, So DRY!

What has happened in one week?
  • Not much improvement
  • No new major breakouts
  • Extremely dry, painful, itchy skin
  • Some redness
  • The redness around my nose has gone down
  • My face is getting used to the dryness and burning
I should have taken pictures from a couple days ago, my face was soo peely and dry. The most dryness is around my mouth. Near the bridge of my nose, my skin feels scaly.

The right side of my face still has fresh pimples. The left side of my face is VERY itchy.

What I have found to relieve some of the pain is something cold. Cold hands, cold glass, anything like that. The feeling of cold air hitting my face is painful though.
I also cannot really wear makeup. I tried to apply liquid foundation, but 1) It burns and 2) My face is peeling so bad it comes out very splotchy. If I wear just powder makeup it also looks very splotchy. Even eyeshadow does not go on smoothly, because my eyelids are peeling...I'm not sure why because I do not apply any creams on them. Eyebrows and mascara are good to go!

A major acne treatment is not for those who are not dedicated to it. You must follow the process everyday (which is quite tedious), and wash your face morning and night! Also a major acne treatment like this is not suggested for those who refuse to go outside without makeup.

I'm waiting for improvement!!! Hopefully we'll see some in next weeks post!

Week One: Prescription Acne Creams

DAY 1:

My Skin Type
- fairly normal, sensitive
- dry patches during winter
- acne is scattered
- acne includes cystic, milia, whiteheads, blackheads

What the Dermatologist Prescribed Me
They originally prescribed me a form of Retin-A called Ziana, and another ointment called Acanya. The prescription ended up being about $900 for the two, because my insurance does not provide coverage for them. If this happens to you, call the dermatologist and they will prescribe something more affordable.

Tretinoin Cream, 0.025%: I was told to apply this every night about 20-30 minutes after washing my face.

Side Effects
          - condition may worsen for the first 2-3 weeks
          - redness
          - peeling
          - stinging
          - feeling of warmth

 Cost: $5

Benzoyl Peroxide, 5%: Apply after washing my face in the morning. The dermatologist suggested I put my clothes on before this, because this product does bleach fabric!

Side Effects
- Several weeks may pass before improvement
- dryness
- feeing of warmth
- irritation
- itching
- peeling
- redness
- stinging

Cost: $5

Clindamycin Phosphate Lotion, 1%: Shake well and apply to clean, dry face every morning. I will be mixing this with the Benzoyl Peroxide.
Side Effects
- Several weeks may pass before you see improvement
- dry skin
Cost: $10

The dermatologist also recommended a more mild facial cleanser rather than Salicylic Acid, because my skin is sensitive. She recommended I try CeraVe. You can purchase CeraVe at Walgreens, Target, CVS, Wal-Mart, and other stores like those.

Both of these products were $13.49 at Walgreens and the dermatologist gave me a $2 off coupon!

I will continue to blog about my journey with these products, I'm hoping I can finally solve my acne problems. If you have acne, I suggest going to the dermatologist, and see what they recommend. If you have any questions or suggestions, please e-mail me at beautydelish@gmail.com or message me on my YouTube channel!

How to Freshen Your Breath

Hellllllooo all! Leila here and this video idea popped in my head while I was sitting in class and someone had awful breath!!
It's a nasty trait about someone and we want to try to diminish it as much as possible! We all know it happens to the best of us so here are my tips to prevent people from cringing their nose as they talk to you!
A BIG ONE

There were many many many DISGUSTING pictures of mouths of cigarette smokers that I could have posted, but I won't scar your brain for life. Smoking is a nasty habit and there is not a single positive thing about it. Clearly, it also causes stinky breath. Even with gum or mints, the smell of cigarette smoke cannot be covered!

Brush your teeth at least twice a day: I know, I know..you hear this everywhere. It is a good idea though! Get a good toothbrush and brush that odor causing bacteria away with a good, minty toothpaste.
Floss at least once a day (before bed) : I personally floss twice a day because that is what I like to do. Just because food does not always come out between each tooth, you are still removing odor causing bacteria.

Use a mouthwash twice a day: I use ACT so I can strengthen my enamel at the same time. There are many options of mouthwash like whitening, fresh breath, strengthening, etc. Choose your favorite and rinse for at least a minute. I always do this after brushing and flossing so that way I get out anything I missed.

Mint and/or gum: If you know you are going to be around people..pop in some gum or a mint. Gum also produces more saliva and prevents odor.

Drink water: After you eat a meal, swish plain water around in your mouth and either spit it out or just swallow it. This prevents food from sitting on your teeth all day and stinking them all up. Also, drink water throughout the day. A moist mouth is key to fresh breath and also you will benefit from drinking water in general!

Eat fresh crisp foods: No! Not chips! Fresh fruits and veggies like carrots, apples, and green beans!
Watch my video below to check out more tips! Thanks for reading and keep your mouth clean :D

New Year's Eve OOTN

So if you watched my NYE makeup look, you might remember me saying that I would try to post what my OOTN would be. However, I did not have much time at all to get on the computer before I went out. So, I figured I'd post a picture on here & just say where I got all the items from!

Purple & gold feather earrings-Papaya (about $4)
--These are really long earrings (went down to part of my stomach, but they aren't too heavy. However, I did wear them in my second hole piercing since my first holes are more sensitive. I probably won't wear them too much since they are pretty crazy, but I love them!

Turquoise/Teal one shoulder dressy top-Charlotte Russe (about $3-4 & was originally $19.99!)
--I bought this shirt online during the huge Cyber Monday sale that CR had. You can't see here, but it's a one shoulder shirt (tank style) and has ruffles on the shoulder. It scrunches at the bottom and is a really silky material. I really love the color & style of this top!

Black mini-skirt-Forever 21 ($5.50)
--This skirt is really comfortable and can be used for casual or dressy outfits. The top portion of the skirt is pretty long, so you can either wear the skirt long or fold over the top part to make it a mini-skirt. i thought that with this outfit & the stockings it looked better this way.

Black mid-length cardigan-Khol's (about $12)
--I love cardigans even though this one is probably my least favorite. When I bought it was looking all over for a black cardigan that was close to the style of my gray one, but not too expensive. I found this one and it's good for outfits like this, but not really to keep you warm. It is nice if you need a cover up for a dress or tank like I did!

Lace tights-Papaya ($4.99)
--I LOVE these tights. I have solid style stockings, but I really love the lace ones. It adds some detail to your outfit! I am glad I picked this design as well because I am fascinated with it too!

BCBG Shoes-Nordstrom
--These are purple wedge heels with a  buckle(to match the purple feather earrings). They are about 3-4 inches high and actually pretty comfortable if you don't do a whole bunch of walking. I don't suggest wearing them while shopping all day or while walking to class on a college campus. Trust me, I did this and boy did my feet hate me! I also realized that wearing stockings, or socks for heels make it so much more comfortable. Plus, it's hard for me to slide my foot in otherwise because the material rubs against your feet & can cause blisters. Someone else bought these shoes for me so I am not sure of the price, but I think it was around $50-$80.

For my makeup look for NYE, watch tihs video. It is also a great look for anyone with brown eyes or if you just want to add some more shimmer to your makeup look!

Hope you had a great New Year celebration. Thanks for reading! :D

Sultra The Bombshell!

Heyyyy :)
My old curling iron is beginning to run down and not work like it used to..I've had it for a few years so it's reasonable. I first heard of the Sultra through Kandee Johnson. I've been looking up reviews on it and decided on The Bombshell. It was between that or the Sedu clipless curling iron.
I first ordered it from Sephora.com which had the Pink Brest Cancer awareness one but I found out I could get it on Folica.com for $40 less. I will be returning the pink one this weekend!
Anyway, to the review:

PROS
  • Very fast heat up..about 30 seconds
  • Great curls, curls quickly and simple
  • Comes with a heat protecting glove and pad
  • No kinks from a clamp
  • Curls last longer with no product
  • Registration for product available
  • VERY long cord
  • Best swivel cord I've ever used
CONS
  • Gets VERY hot but has no heat adjustment
  • Does not look like a curling iron..more like an adult toy!
  • Can easily burn yourself
  • A bit pricey

If you're looking for a good curling iron, give the Sultra a try!!
